Screen too dark or black?
It’s underground, so you need light
Core Keeper takes place underground, and areas without light are dark. Place or hold a Torch to light things up.
The brightness setting
The game settings include a brightness option. Turn it up if things look too dark.
Black screen on launch
If the screen stays black and nothing happens after launching, it is a display or PC problem (see the general fixes below).
Too dark in-game: how to light things up
- Torches: the first light source you can craft, made from wood. Carry them while exploring.
- Lanterns: equip one to light up the area around you (all lanterns).
- Base lighting: use lamps, glowing floors and the like (placeable items).
- Settings: the brightness setting raises the brightness of the whole screen.
Black screen on launch: general fixes
These are general fixes that are not specific to Core Keeper (we have not confirmed they always solve the problem in this game).
- Wait a moment (the game may still be loading).
- Switch between fullscreen and windowed mode.
- Update your graphics drivers.
- Verify the integrity of the game files in Steam.
If the game won’t start at all, see game won’t launch.
