How to Get a Triple Trouble Pet: Which Pets, Odds, Egg Farming, and Automation
Triple Trouble is a pet talent in Core Keeper that gives the owner's attacks a chance to deal triple damage, making it one of the strongest buffs around. The catch: only a few buff-type pets can roll it, and talents are decided at random the moment the egg hatches, so getting several copies takes repeated hatching. Based on an analysis of the game's data files and information from various wikis, this article explains which pets can get Triple Trouble, the odds of rolling it, how to collect eggs efficiently, and how far traps and automation can help.
Key takeaways
- Only three pets can roll Triple Trouble: Owlux, Arcane Symbiote, and Pheromoth, each with a 1 in 8 chance per talent slot.
- Rough egg counts: 2 or more Triple Trouble in about 1 in 3 eggs, 3 or more in about 1 in 11, and the maximum of 5 in about 1 in 420.
- The only egg you can farm repeatedly is the Arcane Egg, by summoning and killing Floracadas with Hardened Sap.
- Materializer clones drop nothing, so egg collection cannot be fully automated. What you can automate is hatching many eggs in parallel.
What is Triple Trouble? How it works
Triple Trouble is one of the talents a pet can have. In game it is described as a chance to deal triple damage on hit, and the effect applies to the owner (you), not the pet. Each copy you learn adds +2% to that chance.
A pet's 9 talents are decided the moment it hatches from a cracked egg. Each of the 9 is picked at random, one by one, from that pet's talent list, so the same talent can appear more than once. A pet with three Triple Trouble slots can learn it three times for +6%.
You earn one talent point every 2 levels, for 5 points in total at the max level of 10. That means one pet can learn at most 5 Triple Trouble (+10%). The 9 talents are also split into three tiers of three: the first tier is available from the start, the second unlocks after spending one point, and the third after spending two.
Note: Melee and ranged pets have Off-Leash, which is also a triple-damage talent, but it only affects the pet's own attacks. If you want to boost your own damage, Triple Trouble is the one to aim for. You can reset learned points for 200 Ancient Coins, but the 9 talents themselves never change.
The three pets that can roll Triple Trouble
In the game data, pets fall into three types: melee, ranged, and buff. Triple Trouble only appears for three of the buff pets: Owlux, Arcane Symbiote, and Pheromoth. The Earie is also a buff pet, but its talent list is built for summoning builds and does not include Triple Trouble.
| Pet | Egg | Talent list (8 talents) |
|---|---|---|
| Owlux | Lively Egg | Triple Trouble, Spirit of the Hawk, Crane Style, Divebombing, Flock Together, Plume Power, Plume Projectile, Avian Run |
| Arcane Symbiote | Arcane Egg | Triple Trouble, Spirit of the Hawk, Crane Style, Divebombing, Flock Together, Avian Run, Arcane Beast, Mana Bowl |
| Pheromoth | Fuzzy Egg | Triple Trouble, Spirit of the Hawk, Crane Style, Divebombing, Flock Together, Plume Power, Plume Projectile, Winged Escape |
All three have 8 talents in their list, so the chance of Triple Trouble per slot is the same 1 in 8 for each. Pick your pet based on its other talents and how easy its eggs are to get.
- Owlux: An all-rounder for both melee and ranged. Also has Avian Run for movement speed.
- Arcane Symbiote: Built for magic. Its eggs can be farmed, making it the easiest pet to roll many times.
- Pheromoth: For melee and ranged. Has Winged Escape, which shortens stuns and snares.
Odds of rolling Triple Trouble and how many eggs you need
Assuming each of the 9 slots has a 1 in 8 chance of being Triple Trouble, we calculated the odds for each number of copies you can actually learn, taking into account the tier unlocks and the 5-point cap. The game data does not set any weights on pet talent lists, so the calculation assumes all 8 talents are equally likely.
| Triple Trouble learnable | Triple damage chance | Chance of at least this many | Eggs needed (rough) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 or more | +2% or more | about 69.9% | about 1 in 1.4 |
| 2 or more | +4% or more | about 31.3% | about 1 in 3.2 |
| 3 or more | +6% or more | about 9.2% | about 1 in 11 |
| 4 or more | +8% or more | about 1.8% | about 1 in 55 |
| 5 (max) | +10% | about 0.24% | about 1 in 420 |
As the table shows, up to three copies is realistic, but four gets much harder, and five takes over 400 eggs on average. Players on overseas forums have reported opening hundreds of eggs and getting only a single pet with five of the same talent.
That is why we recommend aiming for three Triple Trouble plus two talents that suit your build. For a ranged build, for example, three Triple Trouble combined with Flock Together or Plume Projectile gives a solid damage boost with far fewer eggs than waiting for a perfect five.
Where to get the eggs
From the game's drop tables, we calculated where each of the three eggs comes from and the chance of getting one per container broken or enemy killed. These are estimates based on the drop table weights and number of rolls.
| Egg | Source | Chance per attempt | Repeatable |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arcane Egg | Floracada (enemy) | about 19% or more | Yes (can be summoned) |
| Scarlet Chest | about 5.3% | No | |
| Wilderness chests (placed in the world) | about 4.3% | No | |
| Lively Egg | Large Stoneware Pot | about 6.4% | No |
| Stoneware Pot | about 4.2% | No | |
| Large wooden crate (Wilderness) | about 3.3% | No | |
| Overgrown Wooden Crate, large wooden crate | about 2.5% | No | |
| Ancient Crate, Wooden Crate, Large Ancient Crate | about 1.3–2.1% | No | |
| Fuzzy Egg | Large Mold Vessel | about 5.2% | No |
| Large Ancient Crate | about 3.1% | No | |
| Infected Caveling (enemy) | about 1.7% | Partly (wait for spawns) |
Lively Eggs and Fuzzy Eggs come almost entirely from crates and pots placed around the map. These don't come back once broken, so you only get what you find while exploring. If you want Lively Eggs, prioritize breaking Stoneware Pots and Large Stoneware Pots, which have the best odds per break.
The Arcane Egg, on the other hand, drops from about 19% of Floracada kills from its guaranteed slot. On top of that, Floracadas also drop the Hardened Sap used to summon them, so unlike the other two eggs you can farm them indefinitely. If you want as many rolls as possible, the Arcane Symbiote is your best bet.
How to farm Floracadas for Triple Trouble pets
The Floracada is an enemy you summon by placing Hardened Sap near a Cicada Burrow in Azeos' Wilderness. According to its drop table, each kill gives the following:
- Guaranteed slot: exactly one of the Arcane Egg (about 18.9%) or the Lily Pad Hat, Tunic, or Shorts (about 27.0% each)
- Regular slot (2 rolls): Hardened Sap (about 30.9% per roll), Scarlet Ore, and more. The Arcane Egg is also in this pool at about 5.4%.
- Build an arena next to the Cicada Burrow
Dig out the surrounding walls to make room and place some lights so the fight is easier. - Place Hardened Sap to summon it, then defeat it
Your first sap can come from Floracadas as well as Caveling Gardeners and Flower Vessels. - Repeat with the sap it drops
You get sap from roughly half of all kills, so top up from Caveling Gardeners or Flower Vessels when you run short. - Turn the eggs into cracked eggs with an Egg Incubator
An Egg Incubator takes 8 Copper Bars and 8 Glass Pieces. Power it and wait about 30 minutes for a cracked egg. - Hatch and check the talents
Put the pet in your pet slot, open its talent list, and check how many Triple Trouble it has and which tiers they are in.
The biggest time saver is running several Egg Incubators side by side. Each one takes 30 minutes, so ten incubators process ten eggs in a single wait. The materials are cheap, so add more incubators early once you start hunting.
Can traps or automation help?
In short, there is no way to fully automate egg collection. Here is what each potentially useful device can and can't do.
| Device | What it does | Usefulness for eggs |
|---|---|---|
| Materializer | Creates clones of a non-boss enemy when you insert its figurine and power it | No: clones drop no items |
| Traps and turrets | Automatically damage nearby enemies | Partly: helps kill naturally spawning enemies |
| Item Collector | Runs on power and picks up items dropped within its range | Partly: paired with traps, it keeps you from missing drops |
| Egg Incubators (several) | Turn eggs into cracked eggs | Yes: handles hatching in bulk |
The most hoped-for trick is putting a Floracada Figurine in a Materializer. However, Materializer clones drop no items, so they are useless for eggs. Even the game's official account, when sharing a mod that lets clones drop items, introduced it with something like "wish Materializer enemies dropped items," which confirms that they don't in the normal game. Treat clones as a skill-training tool.
Floracadas only appear when a player places sap. So the realistic improvement is to set up turrets and an Item Collector around the burrow to make killing and looting easier. In theory you could also build a trap for naturally spawning enemies such as the Infected Caveling, but the spawn rules are not public and we have not tested this yet.
Tips and warnings
Talents are decided the moment you open the cracked egg. That means if you go back to a save from before opening it, you can try the same egg again. For the Switch version, a commonly shared method is to save before opening and, if the result is bad, quit without saving and retry. On PC, players have reported reopening the same egg many times from copies of their character save data.
Warning: Retrying with save data is not an official feature. On PC the saves are in "C:\Users\(your user name)\AppData\LocalLow\Pugstorm\Core Keeper" and are overwritten automatically when you quit the game. If you try it, always back up the whole folder first, and watch out for Steam Cloud sync overwriting your files. You do this at your own risk if your data gets corrupted. In multiplayer, also make sure it won't affect the host's world.
Once you have a pet you are happy with, it is time to level it up. Pets gain experience when they or their owner damage enemies. Pet Pellets (+50), Rare Candy (+500), and Beast Boosters (+5000) speed things up. If you spend talent points in the wrong order, you can reset them for 200 Ancient Coins. Three Triple Trouble is already strong, so instead of forcing a perfect five, round out the pet with talents that fit your build.
* The pet talent lists, egg drop rates, and Floracada drops come from our analysis of Core Keeper's game data (as of October 2026). The Triple Trouble effect (+2%), the number of talents (9), the tier system, and levels and experience are based on the CoreKeeper Wiki, and the Materializer details are based on the Core Keeper Wiki (atma.gg). These may change with updates.
