BASE DESIGN

Core Keeper Base Design Tips: Paint Brushes, Floors, Lighting and Furniture

Tips for building a good-looking base in Core Keeper: matching colors with paint brushes, layering the four floor types, and using lights, furniture and decorations.

Data: the game files (version 1.3.0.6)

Summary

Tips for a good-looking base

  1. Match colors with paint brushes

Paint brushes in 14 colors recolor walls, floors, doors, furniture and more. They paint up to 5×5 at once and have no durability.

  2. Four floor types can be layered

There are four kinds of floor (glowing floors, regular floors, rugs and floors that are simply placed), and they can be stacked on the same tile.

  3. Set the mood with lighting

Torches, lamps, glowing floors, glowing water and more come in many colors and brightness levels. Light level has no effect on enemy spawns.

How to use paint brushes

  • Crafting: paint brushes in 14 colors, such as the Red Paint Brush, are made at the Painter's Table.
  • What you can paint: items that show “Can be painted” in their tooltip, such as some walls, floors, doors, glass blocks and furniture (for example the Paintable Wall).
  • Area: switch between 1×1 and 5×5 with the rotate button.
  • Never used up: brushes have no durability and are not consumed, so one brush of each color lasts forever.
  • Color-code your storage: chests can be painted too, which makes it easy to tell storage for ores, food and gear apart at a glance.
  • Color-coding chests: recoloring chests also helps you organize what's inside.

Design tips for a good-looking base

  • Limit your colors: keeping walls, floors and furniture to 2-3 colors makes things look cohesive (match them with paint brushes).
  • Layer floors: add variety by stacking the four floor types, e.g. a rug on top of a regular floor.
  • Match light colors: lights differ in color and brightness, so pick ones that suit each room.
  • Decorate: display paintings, banners, aquariums and statues (trophies) (figurine list).
  • Your character's look too: the Dresser lets you wear gear for looks only (vanity gear).

Wall health is in the wall block list, and arranging facilities is in base layout.

Brush colors, where they are crafted, durability and the item counts are read from the game files of Core Keeper 1.3.0.6. The 5×5 painting area, painting chests, the four floor layers and the fact that light does not affect spawns could not be checked in the game data; they are based on the Core Keeper Wiki (Fandom) pages Paint brushes, Floors and Guides/Mob farming (CC BY-SA 3.0). The design tips are this site's own suggestions.

Unless a note on the page says otherwise, numbers are read from the game files of Core Keeper 1.3.0.6 (prefabs, configuration files, drop tables and the game's program) and calculated by this site, including upgraded (per-level) values, sell prices and mana costs.
