How to build a house (room) in Core Keeper: enclosing it with walls, the rules for a room merchants will live in, and using a bed to set where you respawn.

Data: the game files (version 1.3.0.6)

Summary

How to build a house (room)

  1. Enclose it with walls

Enclose a space with craftable walls without any gaps and it becomes a room. Doors count as walls.

  2. 64 tiles

64 tiles or less for a merchant

A room with 64 tiles or less inside, a Bed and 1 free floor tile is a room a merchant can live in.

  3. Set your respawn point with a bed

Sleeping in a bed makes it the place you return to when you die. Waypoints don't set your respawn point.

How to build a house (step by step)

  1. Choose a spot: build somewhere easy to get to, such as near the Core (how to build a base).
  2. Enclose it with walls: use craftable walls with no gaps. Put a door at the entrance (doors count as walls).
  3. Lay a floor: a floor tidies up the look. Things like Root Seeds can break objects placed where there is no floor.
  4. Place a bed and sleep in it: it becomes where you respawn when you die.
  5. Add lights and furniture: place lights such as torches and lamps, plus chests and workbenches.

Choosing walls, floors and doors

Each craftable wall has different health depending on its material. Health values are in the wall block list, and doors in door types. For tips on making it look good, see base design tips.

Rooms for merchants

  • 64 tiles or less inside (8×8, for example).
  • Place a bed and leave at least 1 free floor tile.
  • Place a merchant's summoning item (such as the Slime Oil Idol) in the room. Lights and doors are optional.

Each merchant's summoning item is listed in residents (merchants).
