BASE

Core Keeper Base Guide: Where to Build, First Stations and Useful Mechanics

How to build a base in Core Keeper: where to put it, which stations to place first, how stations pull materials from nearby chests, and how to set up small outposts far away.

Data: the game files (version 1.3.0.6)

Summary

How to build a base

  1. Start around the Core

Light up the area around the Core where you start, and place chests, a workbench, a furnace and a bed. The waypoint in front of the Core also serves as your teleport hub.

  2. 10 tiles

    Keep chests near stations

Crafting stations can use materials from chests within 10 tiles (the nearest 20). You can craft without taking materials out, so line chests up next to your stations.

  3. Small outposts far away

In distant biomes, a small outpost with a portal and a bed makes travel much easier.

Where should you build your base?

  • Start around the Core: it's your starting point. In front of the Core is an unbreakable ancient waypoint, which becomes your teleport hub.
  • Later, far away too: when you reach a new biome, build a small outpost there with a portal (or waypoint) and a bed (how to teleport).
  • Watch out for enemies: enemies break breakable blocks and attack cattle. Enclose your base with walls.

Mechanics that make your base convenient

  • Craft from nearby chests: stations can use materials from chests within 10 tiles (up to the nearest 20). Materials in the 21st chest or further can't be used.
  • Quick stack: the quick stack button moves items into nearby chests (up to the nearest 20) that already hold the same item. Leave one of each item in a chest and it stays the destination for that item.
  • Sort by color: recolor chests with a paint brush or place signs to make their contents easy to tell apart.
  • Invite merchants: build a room and a merchant moves in so you can buy and sell (residents (merchants)).

Expanding your base

  • Layout: for arranging stations, chests, farms, cattle and mob farms see base layout.
  • Looks: for floors, walls, furniture, lighting and colors see base design tips.
  • Automation: automating ore, wood and farming grows your materials while you stay at base (automation guide).
