How to Breed Farm Animals (Steps)

  1. Get two adults of the same kind: different kinds cannot breed.
  2. Turn breeding on for both: no babies are born while it is off.
  3. Keep feeding them: each must eat 30 or more times, and both must be well fed (farm animal food).
  4. Keep them within 2 tiles: a small pen makes this reliable.
  5. A baby is born: afterwards, each parent's meal count resets to 0, so the next baby needs another 30 meals each.

What to Check When No Baby Is Born

  • Are both animals the same kind?
  • Are both adults and well fed?
  • Is breeding turned on for both?
  • Has each eaten 30 or more times since the last baby?
  • Are the two within 2 tiles of each other?

Raising Farm Animal Babies

Babies can store only 1 meal, and a stored meal disappears after 20 minutes without producing anything. After eating 8 times a baby becomes an adult and starts producing. Each kind has its own name for its young, such as "Moolin Calf" or "Dodo Chick" (farm animal list).

How Much Food It Takes to Get One More Animal

Working from the conditions above, getting one new adult takes 30 meals × 2 parents = 60 plus 8 for the baby, so at least 68 meals in total.

This count is our own estimate calculated from the conditions.

Animal names and descriptions are the game's official English text. What each animal eats and the biomes where Drohmbles, Strolly Polies, Dodos and Kelples spawn are read from the game files (Core Keeper 1.3.0.6). Where Moolins, Bambucks and Orexes live and other ranching mechanics (breeding, growth, products) are based on the Core Keeper Wiki (Fandom) page Cattle (CC BY-SA 3.0), summarized in our own words; we have not confirmed them in the game files.

Unless a note on the page says otherwise, numbers are read from the game files of Core Keeper 1.3.0.6 (prefabs, configuration files, drop tables and the game's program) and calculated by this site, including upgraded (per-level) values, sell prices and mana costs.
