Data: the game files (version 1.3.0.6)

Summary

How ranching works in Core Keeper

  1. Bring animals home and fence them in

Lead wild farm animals back to your base with a Leash or a Cattle Transport Box and fence them in. Farm animals do not respawn.

  2. Give them the right food

Fill a Feeding Tray with the food that animal eats (crops, bugs or kelp).

  3. 10 min

    One product every 10 minutes

A well-fed adult produces one item every 10 minutes: wool, milk, eggs and so on.

What Is Ranching? What Do Farm Animals Produce?

Feed farm animals (cattle) and they produce materials or food over time. Each animal has a fixed product, used for cooking or crafting gear.

Where they live and what they eat is in the farm animal list.

How to Start Ranching (Step by Step)

  1. Find farm animals: Moolin and Bambuck live in meadows; Dodo live in places such as Azeos' Wilderness and the Desert of Beginnings (where they live).
  2. Bring them to your base: put a Leash on them and lead them, or carry them in a Cattle Transport Box (single use). Holding food they like also makes them follow you.
  3. Fence them in: surround them with fences or walls to keep enemies out (list of fences).
  4. Place a feeding tray and fill it: put a Feeding Tray inside the pen and add the right food (farm animal food).
  5. Collect the products: once an adult has stored 2 meals, it produces one item every 10 minutes. Talk to an animal to see its name and how hungry it is.
  6. Breed more: keep two of the same kind fed and they will have a baby (how to breed).

Ranching Tips and Warnings

  • Farm animals do not respawn, and enemies attack them. Always keep them inside a pen.
  • Babies produce nothing. They grow up after eating 8 times.
  • Keep fields and pens apart: animals eat fully grown crops (since 1.3.0.3 they wait until the crop is fully grown).
  • Automate the food: placing Mossy Soil or Hardened Sap inside the pen makes food appear on its own (automating food).
  • They are also mounts: all 7 can be ridden with a saddle. While riding, moving does not drain your hunger.

Animal names and descriptions are the game's official English text. What each animal eats and the biomes where Drohmbles, Strolly Polies, Dodos and Kelples spawn are read from the game files (Core Keeper 1.3.0.6). Where Moolins, Bambucks and Orexes live and other ranching mechanics (breeding, growth, products) are based on the Core Keeper Wiki (Fandom) page Cattle (CC BY-SA 3.0), summarized in our own words; we have not confirmed them in the game files.

Unless a note on the page says otherwise, numbers are read from the game files of Core Keeper 1.3.0.6 (prefabs, configuration files, drop tables and the game's program) and calculated by this site, including upgraded (per-level) values, sell prices and mana costs.
