How to use Saddle

Saddle turns cattle into a mount you can ride.

  1. Hold Saddle and use it on an adult animal.
  2. It becomes a mount. While riding, open your inventory to find the mount menu, where you can take the saddle off and turn it back into cattle.

The animal keeps its name and color with or without the saddle. Have a Leash or Cattle Transport Box ready before taking the saddle off, so the animal does not wander away. Riding speed is the mount's own speed ×0.95 with this saddle (×1.10 with the Racing Saddle).

Saddle key points (from the game data)

  • Sells to merchants for 63 Ancient Coins.

Calculated and summarized by this site from the game data (1.3.0.6).

Saddle mechanics (checked against the game data)

  • A mount wearing the Saddle moves at ×0.95 speed.

Saddle notes

  • Using the saddle on a grown animal (not a baby) makes that animal rideable.
  • While riding, open your inventory to reach the mount menu, where you can take off the saddle and return the animal to cattle form.
  • If you do not want the animal to wander off, have a Leash or Cattle Transport Box at hand before taking the saddle off.
  • This multiplier is applied on top of the mount's own speed multiplier.
  • Using a different saddle on a mount swaps it in and hands the old saddle back to you.
  • Removing the saddle gives it back to you and turns the animal back into cattle.
  • Putting a saddle on or taking it off does not change the animal's name or color.

These notes cover behavior that the game files do not show directly. They are based on facts from the Core Keeper Wiki (Fandom) page "Saddle" (CC BY-SA 3.0), rewritten in this site's own words.

What you get from salvaging Saddle (Salvage and Repair Station)

Saddle can be salvaged. Salvaging it gives the following items.

For each material, the amount is "amount used to craft × 0.49 (lower when durability is down, 0.3 at 0 durability) × the item's multiplier", and a fraction is the chance of one more (2.4 means 2, with a 40% chance of 3). The range is from 0 durability to full durability (items without durability always count as full). Scrap parts are a fixed number set by the item level. All items that can be salvaged are listed in salvaging.
