WOOD FARM

Core Keeper Wood Farm: How to Automate Wood with Root Seeds and Drills

How to build a machine that collects wood by itself: plant a Root Seed, let it spread wood, then mine it with drills and move it into chests with conveyor belts and robot arms. Also covers planks and what to check when no wood appears.

Summary

How to collect wood automatically

  1. 10 min

    Plant a Root Seed

Plant a Root Seed in tilled ground and water it. It grows into a root in 10 minutes.

  2. 2-3 min

    Wood spreads on its own

A grown root spreads wood to a nearby tile every 2-3 minutes.

  3. Mine it with drills

Point a Drill at the tiles where wood spreads. Place it so it never mines the root itself.

How to build a wood farm (step by step)

  1. Plant the Root Seed: plant it in ground tilled with a hoe and water it. It grows into a root in 10 minutes.
  2. Prepare ground for the wood: the root spreads wood onto dirt, turf, grassland, clay, grass, beach sand and crystal ground. Surround it with these and leave room to spread.
  3. Point drills at it: aim a powered drill at the tiles where wood appears. Place it so it can't reach the root in the middle (if you break the root, no more wood grows).
  4. Collect: wood mined by a drill comes out of the drill's back side. Carry it with a conveyor belt and put it into a chest with a robot arm.
  5. Test before you expand: start with one root and one drill, and watch until wood actually lands in the chest.

Tips for a more efficient wood farm

  • Wood spreads in random directions: planting many seeds doesn't mean every row grows the same. Build a small one, watch where it grows, then copy that shape.
  • Fix gaps: adding a root can change how the rows beyond it grow. Fix that section before you expand.
  • Hide wires under the floor: wires can go under conveyor belts, and conveyor belts don't need power.

Automating planks (Table Saw)

Put wood into a powered Table Saw and it turns into Plank of the same type. It stops when the power is cut and resumes where it left off when power returns. Adding more of the same wood doesn't reset the cutting timer, but switching to a different type of wood does. Check the saw's input and output before connecting it to the rest of the line.

When wood doesn't grow or isn't collected

ProblemWhat to check
The root doesn't growIs the ground tilled and watered? Did you wait 10 minutes?
Wood doesn't spreadIs the surrounding ground a type wood can spread onto (dirt, turf, clay…)? Is there free space? Did you break the root?
The drill doesn't runIs it powered and facing the right way?
Wood doesn't reach the chestThe conveyor belt's direction, the robot arm's direction and free space in the chest.
