What is Drill? Features and uses

Drill is a common item in Core Keeper (Placeables & furniture). It is crafted at the Automation Table from Iron Bar ×10, Scarlet Bar ×10.

Drill key points (from the game data)

  • Requires electricity to work.
  • Sells to merchants for 166 Ancient Coins.

Calculated and summarized by this site from the game data (1.3.0.6).

Drill mechanics (checked against the game data)

  • The Drill deals 60 mining damage per hit to the single tile it faces.
  • Creatures caught in front of it take 24 base damage (22 to 26 with the ±10% spread).

Written by this site from values in the game files (1.3.0.6 prefabs and configuration files).

Drill notes

  • Its main job is extracting ore from ore boulders, but it can also dig through walls and hurt creatures.
  • Damage to boulders is reduced, and each extra drill adds less.
  • When digging walls it ignores damage reduction, so it can even break Maze Blocks.
  • While powered, it also directly attacks the creature right in front of it every 2 seconds.
  • Items that fall into the drill are pushed out at its back.
  • A diggable Ancient Waypoint breaks after a single drill hit, ignoring its damage reduction.

These notes cover behavior that the game files do not show directly. They are based on facts from the Core Keeper Wiki (Fandom) page "Drill" (CC BY-SA 3.0), rewritten in this site's own words.

What you get from salvaging Drill (Salvage and Repair Station)

Drill can be salvaged. Salvaging it gives the following items.

For each material, the amount is "amount used to craft × 0.49 (lower when durability is down, 0.3 at 0 durability) × the item's multiplier", and a fraction is the chance of one more (2.4 means 2, with a 40% chance of 3). The range is from 0 durability to full durability (items without durability always count as full). Scrap parts are a fixed number set by the item level. All items that can be salvaged are listed in salvaging.
