In-game description
What is Portal? Features and uses
Portal is an epic item in Core Keeper (Placeables & furniture). It is crafted at the Octarine Workbench from Copper Bar ×50, Iron Bar ×50, Octarine Bar ×50, Coral Wood Plank ×50, Mechanical Part ×15, Ancient Gemstone ×20.
Portal key points (from the game data)
- Size when placed: 3×1 tiles.
- Sells to merchants for 1,295 Ancient Coins.
Calculated and summarized by this site from the game data (1.3.0.6).
Portal notes
- After it is placed, a Portal takes about 6 minutes to charge (its in-game description still says 10 minutes).
- Once charged, it can be used indefinitely.
- Pick a spot you want as a teleport destination and place the Portal there.
- Wait for it to finish charging before relying on it as a way back.
- Use it to travel to other Portals, Anteverse Portals and activated Ancient Waypoints.
- Portals and waypoints share a single network, so the two ends of a route can be different types.
- A Portal is a travel destination, not a respawn point.
- If you want to respawn at your base after dying, sleep in a Bed there.
- When planning a base, the waypoint near the Core can serve as an existing connection.
- If the other end already has an activated waypoint, you do not need a second Portal for the new destination.
- Check that a newly placed Portal has finished charging before setting off on a trip that depends on it.
- Charging is a one-time wait after placing it, not a limit on how many times you can travel.
- The Recall Idol only takes you to the Core, so it cannot replace a Portal when your destination is another base.
These notes cover behavior that the game files do not show directly. They are based on facts from the Core Keeper Wiki (Fandom) page "Portal" (CC BY-SA 3.0), rewritten in this site's own words.

What you get from salvaging Portal (Salvage and Repair Station)
Portal can be salvaged. Salvaging it gives the following items.
Scrap Parts×1
Copper Bar×24-25
Iron Bar×24-25
Octarine Bar×24-25
Coral Wood Plank×24-25
Mechanical Part×7-8
Ancient Gemstone×9-10
For each material, the amount is "amount used to craft × 0.49 (lower when durability is down, 0.3 at 0 durability) × the item's multiplier", and a fraction is the chance of one more (2.4 means 2, with a 40% chance of 3). The range is from 0 durability to full durability (items without durability always count as full). Scrap parts are a fixed number set by the item level. All items that can be salvaged are listed in salvaging.
