What is Crude Drill? Features and uses

Crude Drill is a common item in Core Keeper (Placeables & furniture). It is crafted at the Automation Table from Tin Bar ×8.

Crude Drill key points (from the game data)

  • Requires electricity to work.
  • Sells to merchants for 9 Ancient Coins.

Calculated and summarized by this site from the game data (1.3.0.6).

Crude Drill mechanics (checked against the game data)

  • The Crude Drill deals 30 mining damage per hit to the tile in front of it.
  • While powered, it hits creatures in front of it for 12 base damage (11 to 13), every 2 seconds in total.

Written by this site from values in the game files (1.3.0.6 prefabs and configuration files).

Crude Drill notes

  • It is mainly for mining ore boulders, but it can also dig through walls and hurt creatures.
  • Damage to boulders is reduced, and each extra drill adds less.
  • Walls do not reduce its damage, so it can break Maze Blocks.
  • Items that fall into the Crude Drill are pushed out the back.
  • It breaks a diggable Ancient Waypoint in one hit, ignoring the waypoint's damage reduction.

These notes cover behavior that the game files do not show directly. They are based on facts from the Core Keeper Wiki (Fandom) page "Crude Drill" (CC BY-SA 3.0), rewritten in this site's own words.

What you get from salvaging Crude Drill (Salvage and Repair Station)

Crude Drill can be salvaged. Salvaging it gives the following items.

For each material, the amount is "amount used to craft × 0.49 (lower when durability is down, 0.3 at 0 durability) × the item's multiplier", and a fraction is the chance of one more (2.4 means 2, with a 40% chance of 3). The range is from 0 durability to full durability (items without durability always count as full). Scrap parts are a fixed number set by the item level. All items that can be salvaged are listed in salvaging.
