Octarine Ore Boulder key points (from the game data)
- Size when placed: 2×2 tiles.

Calculated and summarized by this site from the game data (1.3.0.6).
Octarine Ore Boulder mechanics (checked against the game data)
- The Octarine Ore Boulder can only be worn down by a drill, and every set amount of drill damage (7,200 in the game data) knocks loose a piece of Octarine Ore.
- The Furnace, the Smelter Kiln and the Fury Forge each smelt their own fixed set of bars.
- The Furnace handles the early metals: Copper, Tin and Iron Bars.
- The Smelter Kiln handles Gold, Scarlet and Octarine Bars.
- The Fury Forge handles the late metals: Galaxite, Solarite, Pandorium and Relucite Bars.
- There is one ore boulder per metal, ten in all: copper, tin, iron, gold, scarlet, octarine, galaxite, solarite, pandorium and relucite.

Octarine Ore Boulder notes
- Several drills can work the same boulder at once, and every extra drill raises the ore output.
- A boulder has room for at most eight drills: two along each of its four sides.
- The ore rate depends on which drills you use, how many there are, how they are arranged, and whether their hits land on the same tile of the boulder.
- Each additional drill still adds ore, but the gain per drill shrinks as you add more.
- A powered drill makes the boulder shake, and you hear a metallic clink on every hit.
- Once the ore runs out, the boulder breaks apart and is gone.
- Point a Crude Drill or a Drill at the boulder and power it, running Electrical Wire from a generator if needed.
- Before building the collection line, check that the drill has power and that ore is appearing behind it.
- Confirm that both mining and collection work before adding more drills.
- More drills will not help if the collection line is jammed.
- The limit of eight is simply how many drill spots fit around the boulder; one drill is already enough to start mining.
- Adding drills keeps raising the boulder's output, though each one adds a little less than the last.
- Send each ore to a smelter that accepts that metal.
- A Robot Arm only loads ore into a smelter when it faces the right way.
- A smelter starts working on its own as soon as it receives ore it can process.
- On the map, an ore boulder shows up as a solid-colored 2×2 square.
- No ore coming out: check the power and make sure the drill faces the boulder.
- Give a new setup time before judging it, and compare its output with the expected drilling rates rather than watching for a few seconds.
- Ore stacking up at the drill's back: look at which way the belts and Robot Arm face, whether the arm has power, and whether the target is full.
- Ore reaches the smelter but is not processed: make sure that smelter accepts that kind of ore.
- More drills did not speed things up as much as hoped: returns diminish with each drill.
- The layout of the drills and overlapping hits also affect the rate.
- The boulder vanished: it has been mined out.
- Move your drill setup to another boulder.
