Which trap is best?
The Galaxite Trap is the strongest
The Galaxite Trap deals 117-143 damage per hit plus burn. It reacts only to enemies and cattle.
Spike traps early on
You can craft the Wooden Spike Trap and then the Spike Trap. All of them attack once every 2.5 seconds.
Keep them away from cattle
Traps also damage cattle. The Poison Spike Trap reacts to every creature.

How traps work
- They attack what steps on them: a trap attacks whatever is standing on it.
- Interval: after a hit it waits 2.5 seconds, and after a miss 1.25 seconds, before attacking again.
- What they react to: wooden and regular spike traps and the Galaxite Trap react to enemies and cattle; the Hive Spike Trap and Poison Spike Trap react to every creature.
What traps are good for
- Mob farms: combine them with spawn tiles to kill spawned enemies automatically (how to build a mob farm).
- Dropping mushrooms automatically: put a spike trap on Fungal Soil and mushrooms break off as soon as they grow (automatic cattle feeding).
- Base defense: place them at entrances to attack enemies coming in.
