What to check when your mob farm doesn't spawn
Are there enough tiles per 16×16 chunk?
Tiles are counted per 16×16 chunk, split by world coordinates. If your tiles cross a chunk border, they may not reach the minimum.
Too close or too far
Nothing spawns within 6 tiles of a player. Nothing spawns within 12 tiles of the world center either.
Did you wait 15-22 minutes?
Spawn events go through chunks in turn, taking about 15-22 minutes per cycle. Nothing spawns right after you build.
Mob farm not spawning: checklist
| Check | Details |
|---|---|
| Tile type | Does this tile spawn the enemy you want? (enemies by tile) |
| Minimum tiles | Does a single 16×16 chunk contain that enemy's minimum tile count (usually 6)? If 3 and 3 are split across a border, neither side has enough. |
| Objects on tiles | Torches, blocks or furniture on a tile stop spawns on that tile. Only the top floor counts. Light level itself doesn't matter. |
| Distance from player | Are you more than 6 tiles from the tiles? If you are too far away the chunk may not be active, so wait nearby. |
| World center | Nothing spawns within 12 tiles of the center (0, 0, where the Core is). |
| Time waited | One cycle is 15-22 minutes. Wait one cycle before deciding. |
| Leftover enemies | Each leftover enemy of the same type multiplies the chance by about 0.2. Kill and clear them. |
When only a few spawn, or rare enemies never appear
- Only common enemies: rare enemies have a low chance per tile (1% and so on), so meeting the minimum doesn't make them appear as often. Place more of that tile.
- Few spawns in a big room: the room may be split across chunks, with none reaching the minimum. Check where the chunk borders are.
- Only one at a time: each chunk has a per-event cap (usually 1). Add more chunks.
- Different enemies appear: check for other tiles (natural ground) nearby.
When spawns stop partway
If enemies you failed to kill pile up, the same enemy becomes less likely to spawn. Clear the leftovers and check that your killing setup and collection path haven't stopped. Also check that a player is nearby so the chunk is active.
Density limit (when more tiles don't add more)
The number of the same enemy that can be in a chunk is capped at "density value × number of tiles", rounded up, and leftover enemies count toward it. For example, the Infected Caveling meets its spawn requirement with 4 tiles of Mold Block, but the density cap is 1; with 16 tiles it becomes 4.
