How to open a locked chest
Insert the matching key
Interact with the chest and place the matching key in its key slot. It opens and becomes a normal chest you can take items from.
Craft keys at the Key Casting Table
Copper through relucite keys are crafted at the Key Casting Table. You need the key made of the same metal as the chest.
Found while digging
Locked chests occasionally turn up while you dig, with the type matching the biome.

How to open a locked chest (step by step)
- Check the chest type: the metal decides the key. A locked scarlet chest needs a scarlet key, for example.
- Get the key: craft it at the Key Casting Table (chests opened with boss treasures need the item from that boss).
- Interact with the chest and put the key in the slot: it becomes a normal chest. The key is used up.
