WATER

Core Keeper Water Types: Sea, Acid, Mold, Shimmering, Grimy Water and Lava

Each type of water and lava, where it is found, which fish it holds, and which one wins when they mix.

Data: the game files (version 1.3.0.6)

Summary

There are 6 kinds of water, plus lava

  1. Water type decides the fish

Normal water gives the fish of the biome you are in. Special water (acid, mold, shimmering, grimy, sea) and lava always give their own fish, wherever they are.

  2. The stronger liquid wins

When two different liquids touch, the stronger one turns the weaker one into itself. When lava touches water, it becomes lava rock ground.

  3. Carry it with a bucket

Scooping with a Bucket does not reduce the source, so you can bring any water you like back to your base (how to build a fishing pond).

The game does not show names for liquid types, so these are descriptive names. "Strength" is the order in which liquids convert each other: when two different liquids touch, the stronger one turns the weaker one into itself. Locations, fishing values needed, strength and the lava rod limit are from the Core Keeper Wiki (Fandom) pages "Liquids" and "Fishing" (CC BY-SA 3.0); we have not found them in the game files.

Fish and catch chances for each place are listed in fish by location.

When different water mixes (strength order)

  • When two different liquids touch, the one with the higher strength converts the other. For example, mold water turns acid water into mold water, but is itself converted by shimmering water.
  • Sea water is the strongest at 7, so it turns every other water into sea water (this keeps the Sunken Sea from being converted).
  • Lava: touching a weaker water turns that water into lava rock ground; touching a stronger water turns the lava itself into lava rock ground.
  • Water does not flow through an intact Great Wall.

What water is used for

  • Fishing: the water type and the biome decide which fish you catch.
  • Watering: a watering can is refilled from water. Pouring a bucket of water (any type) on tilled ground also waters it.
  • Crossing: build a bridge or ride a boat to cross water without removing it.
