How the map works
Only places you have seen
The map only shows areas this character has explored. A minimap is always shown in the top-right corner of the screen.
Waypoints and bosses appear too
Activated portals and Ancient Waypoints appear on the map, as do bosses you have located with a scanner.
Sync maps with friends
With a Cartography Table, you can add places other players have discovered to your own map.
How to open the map
- Press the map button, or click the map icon in the bottom-right of the screen, to open the full map.
- The minimap in the top-right shows where you are and the area around you. You can hide it in the settings.
What the map shows
| Shown on the map | Details |
|---|---|
| Explored areas | Everything this character has seen in this world. |
| Ancient Waypoints and portals | Activated ones. You can pick one on the map and teleport to it (how to teleport). |
| Bosses | Bosses you have located with a scanner (boss scanners). |
| Ore boulders | They look like a solid-colored 2×2 square (ore boulders). |
| Map markers | Markers you place yourself (how to place them). |
Placing markers (pins) on the map
Open the full map and use the place-map-marker button to put a marker anywhere. You can change the symbol, color and label, and place up to 512 markers. See how to place map markers for details.
Tips for finding things on the map
- Echo-maps: using one reveals the location of a specific structure (scene) on the map (echo-map list).
- Boss scanners: using one reveals where that boss is.
- Mark things as you go: put markers on places you want to come back to, such as ore boulders, merchants and fishing spots.
