How world seeds work
Enter it when creating a world
Type a seed into the world seed field on the world creation screen and you get a world with the same terrain and structure layout.
Share the settings and version too
The same seed gives a different world if the world generation settings or game version differ. Share them together with the seed.
Check a world's seed on its info screen
On the world selection screen, the info button shows that world's seed and generation settings.
How to enter, view and share a seed
- Entering: on the world selection screen, click an empty slot and type the seed into the world seed field on the creation screen.
- Viewing: on the world selection screen, press the info button to the right of a world to see its seed and generation settings.
- Sharing: pass on the seed, the world generation settings and the game version together.
Creative worlds cannot use seeds or generation settings.
World generation settings (set together with the seed)
| Setting | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Biome chaos | How much biomes overlap or cut into each other |
| Ore density | How much ore and how many ore boulders there are |
| Tunnels | How many tunnels there are and how long they are |
| Rooms | How many open cave spaces there are and how big they are |
| Rivers | How many rivers there are and how winding they are |
| Ponds | How many ponds there are and how big they are |
| Pits | How often pits appear and how big they are |
| Ceiling holes | How many places get light shining in from above |
Setting names here are short descriptions; the in-game labels may be worded slightly differently.
For your first world, leaving the generation settings at their defaults is recommended.
Things to know about seeds
- A seed decides the terrain and the placement of structures (scenes). Some scenes may not appear at all in a given world.
- We have not verified any "best seeds", so this site does not list them.
- For how big a world is, see world size.
