What is Corrosion Staff? Features and uses

Corrosion Staff is an uncommon item in Core Keeper (Ranged & magic weapons). Its base level is 5 and it deals 27–33 magic damage (95–115 at level 20). It can be obtained from The Hive Mother, Hive Dungeon, Larva Hive (breakable object) and 2 other sources.

Corrosion Staff key points (from the game data)

  • Attack interval: 0.2 s (about 5 attacks per second). Among 18 ranged & magic weapons, it ranks #10 in expected damage per second at level 20 with endgame gear (about 1,987).
  • Upgrading to level 20 raises its effects: +18 mining damage → +181.
  • Upgrading from level 5 to 20 costs 4,639 Ancient Coins plus bars.
  • Durability: 875. Reinforcing it at the Salvage and Repair Station doubles durability.
  • Best source: The Hive Mother — 8.3% chance per kill.
  • Sells to merchants for 48 Ancient Coins.

Calculated and summarized by this site from the game data (1.3.0.6).

Corrosion Staff mechanics (checked against the game data)

  • The Corrosion Staff's beam is 5 tiles long.

Written by this site from values in the game files (1.3.0.6 prefabs and configuration files).

Corrosion Staff notes

  • The beam passes through enemies and damages everything along it, but stops at walls and other obstacles.
  • The tip of the beam can damage diggable walls.

These notes cover behavior that the game files do not show directly. They are based on facts from the Core Keeper Wiki (Fandom) page "Corrosion Staff" (CC BY-SA 3.0), rewritten in this site's own words.

What you get from salvaging Corrosion Staff (Salvage and Repair Station)

Corrosion Staff can be salvaged. Salvaging it gives the following items.

For each material, the amount is "amount used to craft × 0.49 (lower when durability is down, 0.3 at 0 durability) × the item's multiplier", and a fraction is the chance of one more (2.4 means 2, with a 40% chance of 3). The range is from 0 durability to full durability (items without durability always count as full). Scrap parts are a fixed number set by the item level. All items that can be salvaged are listed in salvaging.

How to get Corrosion Staff (Fishing, Boss drop, Enemy drop, Chests & pedestals, Breakable objects)

Fishing (1) Boss drop (1) Enemy drop (1) Chests & pedestals (1) Breakable objects (1)

SourceTypeBiomeAmountChance
Fishing in The Clay Caves (non-fish catches) Fishing The Clay Caves 2–4 0.66%
The Hive Mother Boss drop The Clay Caves 1 8.3%4% from the guaranteed group, 0.91% per regular roll
Big Larva Enemy drop The Clay Caves 1 0.5%
Larva Hive Chest Chests & pedestals The Clay Caves 1 7.3%
Hive Growth Breakable objects Larva Hive 1 2.2%

"Chance" is the chance to get at least one of this item per try (opening one chest, defeating one enemy, one catch). A "guaranteed group" is the group of a chest or boss from which exactly one item always drops; it does not mean this item always drops (the chance of it being picked from that group is shown in small text). Only items that always drop are marked "Guaranteed". Fishing means catches with a fishing rod, separate from enemy and boss drops. Calculated from the game's drop tables (Conf/Loot, 1.3.0.6) the same way the game rolls them.
